Moms taking on Entrepreneurship

By Claudia Simone Ene

What is entrepreneurship, and when did it become popular?

Most people heard, and some dreamed of becoming entrepreneurs. For those who do not know, entrepreneurship represents the process of initiating a new business.

Created by an innovative person, a new organization can be risky and rewarding, serving to bring prosperity and development. The economists consider this to be an essential driver to production, next to natural resources, capital, and labor.

With an old history, entrepreneurship started in New Guinea around 17,000 BCE when people used to exchange products.

During the years, its meaning has changed, but the reasons remained the same: satisfying the demand through supply.

Nowadays, entrepreneurs are valuable for every country's economy. The evolution of technology assisted in the process of the significant rise of new businesses, making entrepreneurship accessible.

According to The Hill, in 2019, the number of entrepreneurs in the world was around 582 million. This fact explains the massive popularity among people from every part of the planet.

In the past, many of the courageous founders of new businesses were men; now, there are ten male entrepreneurs for every seven female entrepreneurs, showing a significant interest in owning their own business on both sides. As sources from 2017 state, only in the US was estimated several 11.9 million small businesses owned by women, providing jobs for 9 million people and generating around $ 1.7 trillion revenue. Many of them are moms who took entrepreneurship seriously and started adventures in this fascinating and demanding world.

Moms take on Entrepreneurship

When women become mothers, they change. They find the power inside them and discover that they can do new things, being more motivated to change their lives, act, and start achieving dreams. Analyzing studies which demonstrate that mothers are likely to be offered less money than the man on jobs yearly, many women have been motivated to start their own companies.

Being driven by an innovative skill, by gaining more money, a better life, or being their bosses, moms from all over the world take on entrepreneurship. They create a business plan, hire labor, acquire resources and financing, and manage their own business, trying to make a difference in the world through different activities.

With pure research, mothers from everywhere may find inspiration in other women's stories who have built not only small businesses but also empires and legacies.

Successful Moms Entrepreneurs

DR Rupali Ambegaonkar is the CEO and Co-Founder, Tea Culture of the World, Mumba. The company is a tea brand for the finest whole leaf teas and exotic blends from India and around the world. And more than this, they have signature blends which they grew during the years. Her motivation came from the sabbatical after she had her baby and from her desire to create a healthy business, leaving behind a legacy that her daughter could be proud of. Her advice for the moms that are taking on entrepreneurship is to never give up on their dreams and to involve the family in their activities, making it more fun and easier to handle.

Emma Bianco is the Founder and Director of Little Earth Baby, a non-toxic, biodegradable, and natural baby products company in the UK. Her idea about becoming a mom that is taking on entrepreneurship came when she observed that many products on the baby market are full of synthetic and toxic substances. So, she decided to create a business that offers natural, sustainable, and biodegradable materials, being ethical and aiming to support and empower women to work flexibly around family life.

Lily Yange is a full-time parent and a fashion blogger and influencer, participating in a regular TV parenting expert show and a campaign model for H&M and Sephora. Her motivation to become a mom who took on entrepreneurship was her desire to see more women of color sharing their stories. Finding herself on the Sephora billboard was a surreal moment, and she believes that any mother who has an idea, should follow her dream.

Why should moms consider taking on Entrepreneurship?

Either we think about moms that always dreamed about owning their company or moms that just decided they want to make a change in their lives; starting a business for a woman who is a mother can be an excellent idea. And here are some of the reasons:

1. You have full control over your decisions, work, time and space and over who represents your brand.

2. You have the opportunity to change your life, but also other people's lives.

3. You have the freedom to change anything anytime.

4. You can create an empire from zero.

5. You can turn your passion into a business.

6. You can make people happy.

7. You will learn and develop yourself continuously.

8. You get to work with brilliant minds.

More than this, worldwide moms can find help and support through different programs. Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is promoting Gender Equality goals by empowering and supporting women and girls everywhere to access financial services, natural and educational resources so they can become valuable entrepreneurs.

Being a mother and an entrepreneur might be challenging. Still, for sure, it is motivating and inspiring to work on your dreams and make it true being conducted by your ambitions and curiosity, so if you are a mom with an idea, why not go on your path and take on entrepreneurship?
