Quality Education
By Claudia Simone Ene
Can you imagine a world without education? The lack of it would make a sad place from our planet because our vision and resources would be limited. We would not have anything from the things we already have access to. But this is not the case because knowledge has always been essential for humanity, leading to progress, changing values, and enhancing lives from a generation to another.
I firmly believe that quality education is one of the most powerful tools that can be used to change perspectives and the world, enhance the level of life for everyone across the globe, and create a better and safer environment for humans, plants, and animals, and to fight against poverty. Quality education is opening new doors for youth, is preparing them for becoming responsible for the society, improving the economy worldwide; is creating modern and safer communities connecting people all across the globe; and is establishing equal opportunities for everyone no matter the age, race, sexual orientation, and religion.
From this point of view, on the fourth of its goals, United Nations is focusing on Quality Education and is advocating for lifelong learning opportunities for all, sustaining the crucial role of education in achieving sustainable development. It is stated that over the past decade, it has been made significant progress towards access to education and school enrolment globally, but in 2018 around 5.5 million children were out of school, which is still a massive problem across the globe. More than this, in 2018, around 773 million adults, remained illiterate in reading and writing skills. Information from the United Nations sustains that Sub-Saharan Africa deals with the biggest challenges in providing schools and education. At the same time, primary resources such as drinking water, electricity, computers, and the internet are still necessary. The Quality Education Goal ensures that the number of children and adults who missed school will lower by 2030. It offers equal access to women and men to education, to relevant courses for employment and entrepreneurship, to scholarships in developed countries, and to decent programs that will slowly bring transformations for the entire planet.
According to studies, the United Kingdom ranked first at the top of the list of best countries for education in 2019, followed by the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Japan, and the Netherlands.
The United Kingdom is offering quality education and is one of the most popular destinations for higher education. Its universities are among the best in the world, according to students' ratings and world-class research. The United Kingdom is well known for its academic tradition and cultural diversity. It has always been one of the favorite places for students to attend various courses and study at a high level. As a result, the UK welcomes nearly 500,000 international students each year and is preparing youth to face workplace challenges worldwide. More than 395 universities and colleges offer 50,000 undergraduate courses across the UK, with more than 25 subject areas. The United Kingdom is famous for providing global recognition to its students with a mix of rich experience, an original way of teaching, and a common language for everyone. Its great quality education aspect can also be seen in the fact that the degrees and qualifications obtained in universities and colleges from the United Kingdom are recognized by employers and academics worldwide. At the same time, students achieve and develop knowledge, skills, and critical thinking to move toward successful careers.
From London, one of the most diverse cities in the world with a combination of culture, art, fashion, restaurants, and history, to Newcastle, a center of historic paved streets, England is the first choice for international students of excellent quality education. More than this, the United Kingdom's culture is notorious for Oxford and Cambridge, universities from England which offer a multicultural society with different civilizations, languages, and religions. Oxford University is a world-leading center of learning, teaching, research, and the oldest university in the English-speaking world. It is ranked first in the world in the Times Higher Education in the last three years, offering more than 35- different graduate degree programs. Cambridge University is the second oldest university in the English-speaking world, being the wealthiest university in the UK and educating numerous notable alumni. Through their great quality education, universities like Oxford and Cambridge are known for their Nobel Laureates, Oxford having 69 and Cambridge 118. There are so many reasons to look at the United Kingdom for great quality education for its students. Either we consider the country’s academic tradition, its honorable first place in the top of students' choices, or the outstanding educational offerings, the United Kingdom is the perfect place for young people to grow and be successful.
